Are you a workaholic who can think of nothing but responsibilities all the time? Be careful, my friend, you might be heading for a nervous breakdown! True, you might really relish all those business challenges and solving problems that others find difficult, but there will come a time when your mind and body will refuse to remain in harmony. So, work can wait; go take a short trip somewhere and just let yourself go!!

You might start arguing that your company just cannot do without you at present, you cannot afford to put your projects on hold, and a holiday is going to prove more stressful than your work. If you take but a moment to consider, your vacation will help you improve your health; you can come back, feeling thoroughly rejuvenated! Most important of all, what a waste of all those vacation days allotted to you by your employer! Don’t you think you better make good use of them? Surprisingly, your company will manage wonderfully even without you!

You are being very unfair to your body and mind when you do not give them a break! Whatever you might think, doing things different from your daily routine is bound to boost your self-confidence no end. And there are no end to the activities you can indulge in during your leisure time—lying on a beach and soaking up the sun, hiking on the mountains, visiting places of interest, fishing or snorkeling or windsurfing, just reading a book quietly, riding a camel in the desert, whitewater rafting, exploring hitherto unknown locations, and so on; the list is endless!
Yes, if you are overly fond of routine, you could go back to destinations that you know and had visited a long time ago. But that will bring about a sense of complacency and not really provide complete relaxation; let your mind be engaged with something new for a change! After all, your aim is to slow down your current pace so that you sleep better; every change is as good as a rest.

The very act of planning your vacation is a change from your daily routine! There is that wonderful sense of anticipation as you plan your itinerary—what would you like to see, which are the places you want to avoid? Your imagination is definitely stimulated!.  

 

Here are a few do’s and don’ts for your trip—
(1) Do not carry a baggage of guilt with you because you are going on a vacation; you are entitled to one after having slogged for such a long time! Just leave all thoughts of work behind.

(2) To reduce that feeling of guilt, you could delegate your projects to your subordinates before going off on a holiday. Prepare a feasible time frame and time line for known future projects, so that you do not carry your tensions with you.

(3) To ensure that your office does not disturb you during your holiday, switch off your cell phone and leave your pager behind in your desk. Please do not carry your laptop with you on vacation; it needs a rest too! And do not tell anyone your actual address.

(4) Finally, a camera and a vacation go hand-in-hand; you would like to capture your memories on film, wouldn’t you? They can like great stress busters whenever you feel overwhelmed with too much of work!
