A Timely Vacation Can Help Prevent Burnout!
How to prevent Staff burnout, preventing burnout, vacation deprived
“Burnout” is a word that is familiar to all hard-working professionals;
the young and ambitious especially, succumb to it quite easily! The signs
are easy to read—you can think of nothing but work all the time; you prefer
sleep to any leisure-time activities; you shun social events due to boredom;
and the mundane routine gets on your nerves—you are heading for a nervous
breakdown.
The solution to this is a vacation, short or long. And here are the reasons
on why you need to get away from it all—
(1) You can sense your productivity suffering because your mind and body
are feeling too tired to cope; it is time to recharge your batteries.
Whether your employer agrees or not, it is up to you to convince him/her
that you will be of no use to the organization unless you come back rejuvenated
after a break.
(2) A vacation all by yourself, with family, or with friends is bound
to boost your spirits no end. When you return, you will find that you
feel more energetic, innovative, and just raring to go! Even household
chores will not seem such a drag any more!
(3) Do you wish to get away from your boss, as well as your family and
friends? Well, you can always vacation alone. As a matter of fact, you
will get time to reflect on the direction in which your life is moving—what
have you accomplished so far? What are your future goals? What would you
like to change? This sort of quiet contemplation will do you a world of
good!
(4) If the purpose of your vacation is to give more time to yourself
as well as your hitherto-neglected family or partner or close friends,
then see that you spend quality time with them and do not bring “work”
in between. What you carry back with you from your holiday will be pleasant
memories and happy moments; these will aid you in giving your best to
your work upon your return.
(5) A vacation is a chance to explore and discover the world around you.
You can visit new places and come in touch with varied cultures around
the globe. If choices of vacation spots are difficult for you, do what
some persons do—keep the world map in front of you and throw darts blindly
at it; wherever it lands, is your holiday destination! If you have more
patience, you can indulge in investigation for a few months before you
actually take the trip.
(6) A few activities that should relax you—kayaking or sailing; voluntary
social work for the underprivileged; museums; amusement parks; exploring
new places and making new friends. Whatever you decide to do, people are
going to find you a changed and more interesting person when you return.
You know why? Now you have something entertaining to contribute during
conversations! You have had the courage to expand your horizons.
(7) Give yourself time and you will find that you are able to eat better
and actually enjoy your meals. Never mind if you gain a few extra pounds
during your vacation; they can always be gotten rid off! You are able
to sleep peacefully during the nights and wake up to birdsongs in the
morning. With daily walks and the tension eased from your shoulders, you
are bound to walk taller and straighter. The impression created is a person
who has a wonderful joy of life! Naturally, you are bound to live longer!
